Starting OverNovember 1

The Steam Pipe Trunk Distribution Venue

StartSmall I have been extremely busy with work and life over the past few months.  I have learned from others mistakes that blogging about work is just simply not a good idea.

I do not intend for that to change.  However, I am excited to be technically unemployed this weekend.  I have left one company where I was a software developer for over 6 and 1/2 years to join a the staff of a college as a programmer.

Life changes like changing jobs are a big deal.  A job change is a big decision certainly not made lightly.  The new job begins Monday and so does a new chapter in my life.

With the new job will come new experience and new topics for this blog.  Defining the scope and and focus with which to write for a blogger is important.  Blog readers want at least some idea of the topics which may be covered.

Some of the new topics may include .NET and more posts about web development.  But as always I will

I don’t go weak at the knees for Apple news.  But I am interested today to find out about price drops.  Here is a link to a good thread from Jesse Stay with live blogging places.  Here are some links.

There is a FriendFeed room as well.  Check it out here.

ProofRead Errors

I am a horrible speller.  Yes, I said horrible, and I mean horrific.  I am uncertain the reasons why but spell check is my friend.  When I write a blog post I spell check and proofread every time.

As I have said on this blog before quality of content is important to me.  I will post when and what I want but I want to produce some level of quality content.  I have a sense as I write a post that a certain value of content should be reached.

I have established that I strive for a level of excellence but more often than not I fall short.  I always find typographical errors in the form of misspelled words and left out words.

I seem to always leave out words.  Always!  I can read a post 10 times but the moment I have released it to the wild I find a left out word.

I published a post titled “Down with FriendFeed Etiquette.”  I had worked on this post for quite sometime.  I wrote the bu

Down with FriendFeed EtiquetteJuly 29

I am against FriendFeed etiquette. Over the past few months I have seen several suggestions and discussions about “FriendFeed Etiquette.” I would characterize all incidents as innocent suggestions by users trying to solve small problems they were having with FriendFeed.

Incidents

The first example I saw of this was Duncan Riley mentioning FriendFeed etiquette. He posted,

“Thinking FriendFeed Etiquette. Obviously duplication is an ongoing issue, but I think people purposely reposting links to content directly on FriendFeed moments after the original person has it up is poor form. Sharing is one thing, doing this intentionally for attention isn’t.”

Duncan Riley was seeing abuse was attempting to suggest a way to curb the abuse.  He was seeing blatant duplication by a few “bad apples.”

Toluu Releases Feed PreviewJuly 16

Toluu updated again this morning releasing another great feature.  The latest feature is Feed preview functionality throughout the site.  When you mouseover a Feed title a window is revealed listing the last 5 blog posts contained in that feed.

I spoke to Caleb Elston the Toluu founder about this feature.  He said,

“We actually decided to build in this functionality when we found ourselves passing by feeds because we didn’t want to wait for the page to load or have to hit the back button. Since we weren’t always willing to take a risk on a feed to see if it might be interesting we knew other users wouldn’t either.”

This should save users time and give you a better idea of the content of a feed.  Caleb had discovered first hand that feed titles may be bad but the content worth taking a look at.  He mentioned that while testing this feature he had “already found a few more blogs I had no idea existed.”

I previously made a long Toluu enhancement list I titled “
