- Rep. Chaffetz demands a leg wrestling rematchToday
-
You’ve seen the “Better Know a District” clip, you know that Stephen Colbert is master of the leg wrestling match, now see the follow up from Rep. Chaffetz. The freshman congressman loved filming his interview, let Stephen give him a facial and, oh yeah, would like to avenge his humiliating loss.

Stephen Colbert says: SEND ME YOUR GOLD!
I’m late to the party with this one (boo … working until past midnight and missing The Colbert Report when it originally airs!), but if you haven’t called 1-888-OOPS-JEWEL yet, you really, really should. The message is hilarious.

This episode of The Colbert Report is exactly what I needed after the crazy and stressful day I had! Stephen was very high energy tonight and, as usual, I was impressed by the writers and graphics department. For me, Better Know a District was the highlight of the show. The entire segment was hilarious! I was especially happy when Stephen brought out Sweetness the gun because Sweetness is one of my all-time favorite TCR characters. And, how funny was the leg wrestling? Here are some notable quotes:
- That kind of ovation I got is really the sort of thing that turns me on.
- Tell me about your black person. Is he nice?
- I don’t actually care.

As we first noted a couple of months ago, Utah’s freshman congressman, Jason Chaffetz, has proven to be quite the sport by agreeing to sit down for a “Better Know a District” interview with Stephen. And now, according to the Deseret News, the fateful broadcast day is approaching:
Chaffetz stays busy on first day of Congress
By Lee Davidson
Deseret News
Published: Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 4:47 p.m. MSTRep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, spent his first official day in Congress with tears in his eyes during his swearing-in, having his first fight with majority Democrats, worrying about appearing on a national comedy TV show —and even criticizing the senior Republican senator in his own Utah delegation.
. . .
He also spent the day worrying about his appearance on “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central, which he said was expected to air Tuesday night or soon thereafter. Host Stephen Colbert is known for skewering guests, in good fun, on the show.
“The scary part is we filmed for three hours for a five-minute segment. So I have no idea what’s going to be cut and spliced to make me look I said something I didn’t actually say,” he said. “It may be the end of my career. It was nice for a few hours, though.”
Chaffetz added, “It’s just satire. But there’s some Mormon

Either it’s a slow news day, or the Associated Press missed Stephen Colbert and The Colbert Report as much as we did. From the AP:
Alan Colmes plays Colbert’s sidekick for a day
By JAKE COYLE – 48 minutes ago
NEW YORK (AP) — Jettisoned by his longtime co-host Sean Hannity, Alan Colmes was adopted by Stephen Colbert — for a day, at least. On Monday’s “The Colbert Report,” Colbert introduced the Fox News commentator as his new co-host.
It was the first episode of the Comedy Central show following the holiday break, and Colbert unveiled a completely new format, dubbing the show “Colbert & Colmes.” The new design featured a “C & C” graphic and a chair behind the desk for Colmes (albeit one a foot or two shorter than Colbert’s).
. . .
Reached by phone Tuesday, Colmes had returned to his human self.
“It was very well done,” said Colmes, who is developing a new weekend show for Fox News.
As to how working with Colbert compares to working with Hannity, Colmes said: “Both are extremely gracious, although I feel a lot taller sitting next to Sean Hannity.
