No December meetingNovember 30 2008

Just a reminder that there will be no December meeting.

Flex skinning - November meetingNovember 15 2008

November 19th, Judah Frangipane (yes, he’s back from California for now!), will be presenting on Flex skinning, among other things.  This will also be a perfect time for everybody to tell Judah how awesome Minnesota is and how he should stick around.

Adobe CS4 Flash MN Presentation at FlashMNNovember 5 2008

Below are my notes from tonight’s FlashMN meeting starring Dustin Tauer.  The presentation focused on the new features of Adobe Creative Suite 4.

Illustrator CS4

  • Can create multiple art boards.  So, if I wanted to use artwork for the front and back of t-shirt, I would create 2 art boards (up to 100).  There are a bunch of pre-set art board sizes.
  • Can create art boards inside of art boards.  So, if I wanted to create one art file with different sections that would save individually, you could do that.
  • Tab-viewer for multiple documents (rather than windows for each document) - this is similar to Firefox tabs
  • Gradient panel has opacity option.  Gradient tool provides a visual way to shift the gradient ON THE SHAPE (rather than in the panel)!
  • For people who draw, there is the “Blob” tool, which makes it easy to change existing shapes (no more messing with paths).
  • Nice “smooth out” tool for drawers to fix up sharp edges.
  • You can now export layers as .png’s (or jpegs or whatever), entire artboards, or a certain range of art boards
  • Shortcut: CTRL+ALT+0 shows all artboards (”Super Show All”)
  • You can place drawings and paths inside of paths - i.e. Illustrator is smart in the way that it manages stuff
  • New “Smart Guides” feature to help line stuff up.  So you don’t need to draw a bunch of lines
  • Can now toggle between editing stuff either insid
October meetingOctober 11 2008

This month the meeting date has changed.

Tuesday, October 14th, Dustin Tauer will be presenting CS4.  Don’t miss it!

Same time, same location.

August 20th MeetingAugust 18 2008

There have been many times in my life where I look at something that I
have wrapped, built, coded, or designed and said to myself, “Those
colors don’t look quite right.” At these times I usually hang my head
in shame and move on, not fully understanding the problem or knowing
where to look for a solution.

Thankfully for me (and hopefully for you too), John McCaffrey, a
Multimedia Design Instructor at Hennepin Technical College, will be
engaging our group in a presentation about how we can begin to address
the issue of “color” in our projects. His topic description follows:

“Making good color choices does not have to be hard. All it takes is a
plan. Learn just enough (and hopefully a bit more) color theory to be
dangerous.

Combining a bit of science, psychology, history, art, and modern
technology you will learn how we process color information. Armed with
this information you will be able to develop your own plan to use
color effectively.

We will examine how color is implemented in some of the different
design tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash). Learn how to manage
color between the different applications. Learn about the strengths
and weaknesses of each application when working with color.”

Please join us on Wednesday for John’s presentation!
