It's not often we see our hero looking as suave, sophisticated and formal as he did at the gala black tie reception kicking off the New-York Historical Society's annual Weekend with History on Friday, April 4, 2008, where he delivered an informal speech. At left, we see him standing with Jim Dale, Gordon Wood, Paul Goldberger, and the head of the Society Louise Mirrer. Hitch is the one cupping a glass of amber nectar. And the photo below shows Hitch, still nursing his beverage, and Gordon enjoying a free and frank exhange of views and body language.
This was indeed an historic occasion being the first time the Popinjay has ever been spotted dressed as a penguin.

- Hitchens' Ominous Ties to TerroristsNovember 17
-
I just wanted to make a sort of general announcement to the readers of HW. Starting officially today we are going to be taking on a new approach in our analysis of The Popinjay. In the coming weeks, months, and yes, even years, each and every post on this site will from this day forward focus entirely on, to the exclusion of all other topics and subjects, Hitchens' alarming associations with figures like Abu Nidal—the unrepentant terrorist—and other anti-American radicals.
Now granted, I do suppose it's possible that some of you may be wondering why Hitchens Watch would go to such lengths to highlight this issue, so let me put any confusion out there to rest. We are doing this solely because of how it reflects on Hitchens' poor judgment. That's it. We assure you that it's not for any other ulterior motive. Honestly, it's not like we're trying to imply anything or subtly implant a certain idea into your head or something. Don't be ridiculous. The American people just want answers, and are entirely justified in expressing outrage over - Olbermann on California's anti-gay marriage voteNovember 17

This is the best speech I've heard in many moons, beating anything any of the candidates for Prez were able to crank out. All those diatribes aimed at Dubya have sharpened Keith's presentation skills, and he has put them to very good use here. He's is impassioned about the gay marriage issue and incensed that Californians have voted to delegitimize same-sex marriage by passing Proposition 8. As a "race traitor" myself, having married outside of the white tribe, what Keith says about the cruel restrictions that were imposed on hetrosexual marriage in the US (well, it is a very backward nation in so many ways!) within living memory certainly hit home with me. Let's let adults of sound mind marry whoever they want to and, once they've made their bed, let them lie in it. And I hope I'm not aping the Contrarian by saying that if that offends the religious, that's just one more mark in its favor.![endif]-->!--[if>
