- Facebook officially tries to take over the WebYesterday

I attended a Facebook-iLike party last year where I ended up YELLING at the iLike guy that I hoped he was developing for platforms OTHER than Facebook. He assured me he was.
He had been going on and on about how Facebook WAS the social web and how open it was and how coolio Facebook was.Now over a year later we continue to see evidence that Zuckerberg and Facebook really think the web IS Facebook and that they would do everything they can to suck IN content and people INTO the black hole known as Facebook, and dam the rest of the web.
This is downright scary shit!Cause In Mark Zuckerberg’s latest “Facebook is gonna take over the world” missive, Mr. Zuckerberg fails to bring up a very compelling usage of Facebook Connect - inviting your Facebook friends into another service. That’s what we’re doing with the U.S. Army ROTC program - and I bet allot of folks will use this feature.
NOTE: This invitation does NOT go out via SMTP email, but will get sent v

I love the energy of the first week in December. Everyone is thinking about X-Mas and vacation, while at the same time closing up their year and trying to close last minute deals or spend remaining budget. Since it’s a short month - things happen much quicker during this time of year.
I bought an HP laptop on Black Friday, got it home, configured it - and it’s screen stopped working. They gave me a lemon. The folks at BestBuy told me that 1:30 gets returned. It doesn’t matter what the brand or device is - 1 out of 30 get returned! Good news they didn’t blink an eye and just handed me another one. Seemed like SOP.
One event I’m bummed I can’t attend (I was invited to speak at) is the 40th Anniversary of Doug Engelbart’s infamous demo - where he first showed…….. [insert almost everything - mouse, windows, tele conf, etc.)Congrats to Dare Obasanjo, Angus Logan and all the dudes and dudesses up in Redmond

OpenSocial, Facebook and Microsoft vie for developers. We’ll have these three companies, and SixApart on my panel at LeWeb8 in two weeks.
When Dare Obasanjo finds something overwhelming - we’re talking seriously geeky. I grabbed about 5 of these posts and will be giving them away as X-Mas gifts. I believe this poster was done by Angus Logan.
Dare also has a great post on Facebook Connect and how Facebook is free of baggage (which Microsoft isn’t.) We’ll be having Jeff Hansen on our panel in Paris - and I’ll bring this issue up with Jeff “Can Microsoft ever leave behind Passport?”

As far as I’m concerned it’s the Koreans who are leading the world in consumer electronics. Go into any Home Depot and you’ll see LG dish washers. Samsung flat panels are the best priced/performance value and Samsung phones - rock.
Now Samsung is showing………… well just check out the video (from some Tokyo show):
This is what innovation is all about!
