- WAOD Exclusive:Common Cause’s Opposition to Bob Johnson’s Urban TelevisionToday
-
Yes. Yes. Another post about mass communications law. Why? Because this affects you and is being done in your name. Yesterday we linked to the comments of Civil Rights groups who gave their enthusiastic, UNCONDITIONAL support of swift approval of Bob Johnson’s request in the name of diversity. I think that was an abdication of their responsibility to look out for what was in the best interests of their constituencies as opposed to Bob Johnson. In fact, Common Cause pointed out that Urban Television’s current application is not in the public interest.
I went through the trouble to obtain a full copy of Common Cause’s comments to the FCC that were referred to in several news articles and my earlier post.
The comments from Common Cause say that they are in support of the Johnson’s request, but in their conclusions, their prayer is that the Commission deny Johnson’s application. Unless Bob Johnson does more that offer promises of rainbows and ponies, the application should be denied.
Read the comments from the NABJ, National Bar Association, National Urban League, Rainbow PUSH, Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and others, and compare them with these comments from Common Cause. Yes I am posting common Cause’s comments in their entirety because you can’t find them anywhere else

“Never did we dream that in our lifetimes we might have an opportunity to witness this, the birth of the nation’s first over-the-air African American television network. But this year, so many things once thought impossible are taking place.” Source
Its irritating when the Black Elite Establishment sells the rest of Black America Down river for their own self enrichment, but its exponentially more annoying that they sell the rest of us down river for such a low price, or what I like to call “a two piece and a biscuit.” If you are going to sell your soul to the Devil, shouldn’t you ask for something more than dinner and promises of rainbows and ponies from Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television? Not content with his latest venture as the producer of “Who’s Your Caddy”, Bob Johnson.
I’ve written about five different unpublished posts about Bob Johnson’s attempt to launch BET II, but each time I peel away a lawyer of the onion, I discover something else. So instead, I want to encourage you to do your own analysis and investigation and send your own comments to the Federal Communications Commission, because the thoughts and views of most African Americans are being intentionally distorted by Bob Johnson, with the help of the Black E

What About Solutions is a weekly feature here at What About Our Daughters. Each Wednesday, we’ll feature an ordinary individual or organization that is doing their part to be part of the solution.
Our first entry of 2009 is from WAOD reader Kimberly ELLIS ( I originally said “Kimberly Caldwell)” via my Facebook page that I NEVER check. This is the trailer for Dr. Goddess!: A One Woman Show. I know you’re always asking about solutions and I felt the same way and created one. This story is about the coming-of-age of a black girl. I already know you get it, so no need to explain further. Let me know what you think of the trailer when you get a chance. No rush, no pressure . . .
The fan page will give you easy access to everything as well:

Kimberly I applaud your courage to take the stage in a one woman show. When we sang “I am a Promise” in church, we didn’t necessarily break it down like that, but it was unique.
Folks take a page from Kimberly!Tired of pop culture and what you are seeing? Take a risk? Put yourself out there and start creating like your fellow WAOD reader Kimberly! I want to see some sock puppet theater, some cellphone mockumentaries, Attorneymom, JJ, Al from Bay Shore, Yme, Yv

Welcome back worker bees! I hope you had an amazing holiday experience. We had a fabulous break.
Lots of changes going on around the blogosphere at this time of year. I know a number of bloggers who are going through infrastructure upgrades, but lots of other changes are happening. This is a reminder that early registration for Blogging While Brown 2009 ends February 1, 2009.
Shawn P. Williams of the Dallas South Blog is launching Dallas South Media and will be blogging and freelance writing full time.
Well you heard it here first. I’m stepping out on faith and pursing my passion when I launch Dallas South New Media next Monday. Dallas South -the blog- is the foundation of this new media endeavor which includes freelance writing, social media consulting, and public speaking.
Dallas South has been featured on NBC Nightly News, the Chicago Tribune, the Toronto Star and many other national publications. By devoting more of my time to building on this success, I feel I can take Dallas South to even higher heights in 2009.
My family and I will need your prayers and support as we take on this new endeavor.
Work it out Shawn P!
